Okay, I'll keep this short. I went to China for 5 days for the sole purpose of visiting my ancestors in Fuzhou. I didn't know the Ang family's roots spread out so far out to china. I am called "Uncle" by one of my younger relatives there omg. I arrived at their house at around 11pm that day, and I was super demoralised when I saw how run-down the building was. It was like the old Kampung houses you see.. but everything changed when I stepped inside.
It was totally different inside, they have all the household appliances you would see in our homes, and their wooden house is attached to a 3 story apartment. That's right, an apartment. I stayed in the 3rd floor and damn, they have a huge-ass LCD TV right in their living room. The street was really quiet at night, but in the day it was like watching a movie. The motorcycles honked here and there, swirling left and right on the streets. The food the aunt there cooked for us was damn delicious, It's like eating in a restaurant! Okay, I'll split the 5 days into paragraphs for eye candy purposes :D/
Day 1
Went up the streets to "shao mu", my grandfather's father's grave. It was located on a pretty steep hill without any stairs or road up. We have to climb up and because it was raining for several days, the sand became mud. I have to help grandma up as she's pretty old and walking tire her out easily. Once we are there, we cleaned the area of stray leaves, set up, burnt "Jing Zhi" and set off some firecrackers. My first time playing firecrackers. It was damn loud, and dangerous; that's why it's banned here isnt' it. When the fire crackers went off, one fragment actually hit my face ahaha.
Day 2
Pretty much nothing happened, we went up the shopping centre in the city of Fuzhou. Seriously; people there smoke in air-con rooms! Bought a hat for 30 RMB. = $6 SGD HAHA!
Day 3
My uncle's friend drove us in a mini bus to the mountains and we had several activities there. We stayed in a hotel that night. Went to a Cave then a Canyon, forgot the name. It was very beautiful, and the air is super fresh. This is the part which ruined my trip experience. As we were in a hurry, I had no time to decide weather I want to bring my Iphone charger out or not. In the end I did not and my Iphone went out of battery. As a half-hailbroken iphone, I cannot turn my phone back on as it's stucked in recovery mode. Great. all 3 days of photos I taken are lost. Bad mood for the rest of the day, and can't sleep at the hotel that night.
Day 4
First we boarded a ferry and it took us around the lake to places of interests. Then we went uphill further and went on the bamboo boat ride. It was the best part of this trip. I threw the unhappiness that my iphone's data was lost and had fun. It was a 16.5km ride downstream with 2 experienced rafters. The bamboo boat is basically just 14 bamboo poles tied together and more bamboo are made into chairs attached onto it. It was very simple, doesn't really look sturdy but it did. It was a 2hour raft downstream and we enjoyed the fresh air and scenery there. Went on board the bus back to Fuzhou at 4pm. Arrived back the house at 8pm.
Day 5
Waked up at 6am and packed my stuff. Went up the plane and flew back to singapore. Thats all.
Seriously; if my iphone did not cock up during the trip, I'll shove this trip up the 2nd most fun... 1st being Japan. 2nd still being Royal Caribbean and 3rd. This.
